I still have my old fuel pump & I will look for the check valve. It sounds correct. If the valve is something can replace, I will do that and keep this pump as a spare.

Not sure if the check valve can be replaced in the modern day fuel pump 'module'. Back the the day, when I was into Datsuns, I owned a 280z. The symptoms in your thread reminded me of those days. Loss of fuel pressure due to a bad fuel pump check valve was rather common on 280Z and 280ZX's. The difference being that you could just jack those up and change the valve since the fuel pump was on the outside of the fuel tank.

 

Whichever bit failed, it was still part of the fuel pump assembly.

At least it's fixed now.

Pictures of the fuel pump. I was NOT able to see or find a check valve. Maybe someone can point it out to me?

 

It's likely built in somewhere along the outlet path and not a replaceable part.

 

My guess is it's integral to the pump part. Usually just a flapper of some sort.
