Grinding noise on startup ?

As of a few weeks ago when I get in my 2007 HHR LS it makes a loud grinding noise that sounds like it might be coming from the passenger side of the car.

Anyone know what might cause that?

It used to only do it in the morning and not the rest of the day but now it does it like every time...

could be alot of things
1. Brakes
2. Wheel bearing
3. Lawn mower you son left beside your car.
4. Did you check to see if the tire was still on the rim?

Thanks for the useless information.

Now anyone else who hasn't been repeatedly dropped on the head as a child have an idea?

come on now! It's brakes or wheel bearings. that's it. I gave you some other ideas, but you didn't like them.

Does it only happen within the first 30 seconds after the HHR has been sitting for a while? I posted this a little while back but nobody seems to know anything about it:

Does this sound like your issue?

I don't think that's the same thing I'm experiencing. Mine doesn't sound like a squeaking at all but metal on metal or something else but more grinding and just on the first few seconds of startup.

Are you running Synthetic Oil? My HHR does that only when it is has been started and not warmed up and then shut off.

maybe the starter gear drive is the culprit.
