Heated Seats - Blinking Lights
OK everybody, here is a problem. before anybody posts on how to "search" and whatever, i did. I have a problem with my heated seats, which I installed myself using ALL factory stuff. Anywho, they worked fine for a year and a half, and recently the driver's side heater comes on, and then starts blinking immediately. If I turn them off and then back on the same thing happens.
What I'm looking to know, is either the seat grid is messed up, or the control module is messed up. How do you test both of these devices. (ChevyMgr?) I know somebody must have documents from GM to show their technicians how to test these? I'd rather not pull the entire seat apart to find out the the seat elements are fine. And I can't just swap the control modules, because I believe they are different. Is there a way to check resistance for the elements and/or module as a way to test?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

If you can send me a PM with your e-mail address I can send you the seating section of the service manual in PDF form. The diagnoses and repair of the heated seat assembly is a bit too in depth to get into here. Unfortunately ChevyMgr has left us so we'll muddle through with tech info as best as we can, I'm always happy to share.
nxl, I just got my seat module. what par number did you use for your heat grid....
I "need" to do the mod as well. but I don't plan on putting the grid on the seat bottom. I plan on putting it in the back rest for my back...a couple blown discs on long drives tend to get me a bit stiff...
I figure I'd need to extend the harness to accomodate the seat range of motion..

OK, sorry for the delay, I know a few months, sorry. Anyway, I have just ordered the Seat Cushion Heater part number 21994493. $60 each. That should fix the problem. Appraently my FAT A&% broke the seat cushion, since nobody else sits in my car and drives, EVER! Oh well, I guess I will have to replace the part every year? Heater only lasted a year, I only weigh 210 LB?

It's not a hard repair. if you have the right tools, it will take about 20 minutes to complete your repair. You need to remove the seat which is affected. Unplug ALL Connectors under seat before removing seat from car. Then you have to remove the bottom plsatics on the sides of the seat. Then remove the bottom cushion. You will need a set of Hog Ring Pliers and some Hog Rings. I forget what size I have. CAREFULLY, remove all hog rings from seat and the leather will remove completely from the cushion. replace heater and run lines the same way they were taken off. Put leather back on the cushion and secure using NEW hog rings. You can use a set of needlenose pliers. but TRUST ME, having the right tools makes the jub go by very fast and easy. I want to say I have 1/2" Hog rings. There is a Metal band which is molded into the cushion. You are securing the metal bar which is sewn into the leather cover to the metal ring molded into the cushion.
Good Luck.
Good Luck.
