Unhappy I'm back :(

Hi Guys,
I'm back and have a few questions. So I still have my car (of course) we've replaced the same thing once again since 2012. Recently I took it in to get it checked since it was making a very faint humming type noise and the check engine light kept coming on and off. I was given some codes that I wanted to run by you all. P0121 and P0456 (new codes). We got the same codes as before (P0013/P0014) so he checked the camshaft and said they were fine but he told me he found hard plastic particles in the screen of the sensor mixed in with the oil, also said he'd have to take apart the engine to check a timing belt which he thinks is breaking apart causing the particles. (or something in that nature) He said it wasn't worth fixing and mentioned I should get rid of it and go with an imported car I must note he specializes in Japanese cars. Well getting "rid" of my car is not an option so I wanted to put this thread out there and see what kind of info I get since ya'll have helped me so much in the past!!! I am waiting to get a second opinion but until then I am at your guys' mercy

Thanks in advance!!!!

Welcome back, the plastic particules are most likely the timing chain guides getting chewed up.
You might as well replace the whole kit, chains and guides and sprockets most kits on EBay come with a new water pump and tensioner for under $200.00
Ask his price for labour, or take it to a wrench that likes Chevys.
And by the way this is a foreign car , Saab designed the engine and it's built in Mexico!

Yeah - what Oldblue said.

How much longer can you drive it - hard to say, but if it is the timing chain guide particles that are showing up in the oil, I would want to get the guides etc. replaced as per Oldblue, as if it deteriorates much further the timing chain can get too loose and skip a tooth - and that can involve very expensive repairs if the valves get bent.

And if your mechanic says it was parts of the timing belt, find another mechanic - it has a timing CHAIN (big difference)

the P0456 code most frequently is caused by a loose gas cap - and the P0121 is related to the throttle position sensor, which can often be resolved by a good cleaning of the throttle body. Neither are expensive items.

this is the kind of kit I was talking about, everything you'll need to freshen up your timing chain and while you're at it water pump!
I do not endorse or have any connection to the vendor just an example of the kit
