Don is right - the initial current draw is higher for a few minutes then drops back down. However it should not be dropping to ZERO. I suspect your meter is either not accurate, a bad connection, or you have the reading set too high?

If it actually drops below the 50ma range after a few minutes then the problem lays elsewhere - like the battery itself. If the alternator or anything else in the car was causing the problem, then there would be a sizeable current draw.

 

Decided to try the obvious, so went to the scrapyard last thursday the 24th and for $30 took a instrument cluster from another 2011 hhr. I put it in mine and haven't had a problem with it since. I'm still going to give it a couple of weeks before I say it's fixed though. I know I still will have to take it someplace to have it programed to read the right odometer reading on my car. The replacement cluster shows 155,544 and mine is about 101,000.
