Okay for whatever reasons this problem it's frustrating to me so just now I'm at the carwash and I let it idle and it kicked on at 217 like it does. And sat here and let it cool it went from 217 down to 180 and just sat there it did end up going as low as 179 by itself. So I said screw this I rolled all the windows down I put the climate control to vent, turn the heat all the way to the max turn the blower to the max and let it rip. After like 1.5 minutes the temperature went as low as 177 then like magic The Fan went off. So I guess, I could ignore the problem. The driver information cluster seems to show me proper numbers so I don't think I can assume there's anything wrong with my coolant temperature sensor.

So I guess you might be on to something with the thermostat., if I don't put a 180 in there then this fan is never going to turn off in the summertime. Not to mention if this particular engine is designed to be kept at 180 degrees I'd rather do that then keep it 10 degrees higher. I think I still have the box but I don't know if I still have the receipt it's not like it was expensive I'm just disappointed usually orileys is pretty good, pretty sure he only had one on his screen so there wasn't any other options for different thermostats I always watch these folks

Okay so I just did another test I turn the air conditioner on to Max turn the blower to the max sat here with my windows up and the coolant temperature stays right at 187. So if it was a hundred and eighty degree thermostat, it probably would be sitting at around 179. Also I don't know if I mentioned this but this is an 07 automatic trans 2.4 liter engine

Ok also looks like there is a difference whether you're driving or idling, in another test I went to the post office let it idle warm up to 217f the fan kicked on. Then I just hopped in it and started driving I was carefully watching the coolant temperature on the driver information cluster. It never got below 185. When I got to my destination. Put the car in park hopped out and the fan was not running. So I guess I decided I'm just going to ignore this, if I had a tech2 assuming I would be able to see when the fan is turned on and off while I'm driving but I don't have one, so I guess I will just say for the time being is that the low cut off when you're idling is 177 and when you're driving 185 plus or minus.

The AC and the fan are on when in recirc mode. If you are one that drives around in recirc the fan will be on.

Yes the coolant flow is different when the engine is at a higher rev than idle.

na, i am more suggesting the computer's temp low cut off # is different from in park or drive.

Really, re-circ mode huh.... its historically been just when Defroster is selected.
i would be surprised if selecting re-circ cycles the compressor.

i drive around in fresh. unless there is some ******* smoking CIGS or WEED infront of me.

nobody has really said so far if there is different engine temperature sensors.
in the past GM has used 2. one for the coolant temp... and one for the gage.

so go along with your "Yes the coolant flow is different when the engine is at a higher rev than idle." maybe the DIC is displaying one number but the computer is getting other numbers from somewhere else? --- and we all know the water pump is creating greater pressures differing from idle and higher rpm's...

There is one temperature sensor. I think you are way overthinking the issue as the temperatures you are throwing out are within spec. As long as you dont have a check engine light, high temp reading (higher than lets say 220) and your coolant gauge/digital display haven't flat-lined, then dont worry about it. The cars computer wants the car to be running anywhere between 176-217 degrees F. Anywhere outside that is not normal.

yeah and i do now know the fan goes off when i am driving down the road somewhere between 189 and 185. that was my main concern... no reason to have the fan on when i am cruising down the road... i don't need to prematurely burn the thing out.

I need to get a tech2...

It is in your Owner Manual page 170-172. And it won't go into recirc in floor or defrost.

"Normal" running temp is around 190F
