Angry HHR Locked Out Can’t unlock with key

I own a 08 HHR SS and I went to shut it off and got out and locked the door well the battery died over night and I can’t use the key fob or the key, the key lock will not turn to unlock the car it feels as though it is jammed! What’s the best way to go about it without hiring a locksmith cause money is tight these days!

to the forums!

Maybe spray some graphite into the keyhole.

Hook up a battery like you're going to jumpstart the vehicle, then try unlocking with your fob.

That's positive to the big lug under the red cover, negative to the strut tower nut. This is at underhood fuse block, so you'll have to figure out how to get the hood open.

do you have any recommendations on how I should go about getting the hood open while I’m locked out of the car?

Wire coat hanger and break in your own car. Or a Slim Jim tool if you can find one.

Question is. Why did the battery go so dead that you can't use the fob ?

Alternatively, if you could get the positive jumper to the large lug on the starter, and the negative to a ground point, that would also power up the fuse block. But you would have to be sure not to touch any other metal with the positive lead.

This really is too risky, you're going to have to get a tow truck out to unlock it. And figure out why the battery is dead, and fix it.

Or try the graphite

This video shows a pretty cool lockout solution using paracord, and the subject car is an HHR!

Can you get to the starter?
Find any 12 volt line and hook up.
