High pitch electronic whining sound coming from dash
I had a Chrysler Van years ago, that had an all digital dash. There were times that an oscillator somewhere in that dash drove me absouletly nuts. I never did resolve that, and I seemed to be the only one that could hear it, so my wife wasn't all that sympathetic. This was a number of years ago, and by now I can no longer hear high frequency sounds, but I sure could then.
I know what you mean, not about the noise, but about noises. I too am sensitive to high pitch sounds. They don't really bother me, but I can hear them...things like you mentioned, tvs far away, dog whistles and such. Without having my HHR here I don't know if mine does it or not, but I have never noticed anything... I've heard so many little squeaks in my cars that no one else can hear, but I just have to turn the radio up... But I know how annoying those things can be!
My ears constantly ring..( too many jet engines rock concerts race cars and screaming women)
Now with that said I can pull a Mash Radar and call an incoming helo when nobody else can hear it......
Interesting story on the ear op,,,,with the work I do I couldnt handle it. I'm around so much electronic equipment I'd be screaming!

Yeah, I too have an almost constant ringing, but thats not a real noise. The high pitched squeal in that vans dashboard was real and annoying. Maybe the HHR has an oscillator somewhere in the dash that can squeal. I don't hear it in mine, but then by now my hearing isn't all that great any more. I used to always hear any television that was on, sometimes from outside the house, but not any more.
I hear it too....
Just bought a 2009 w/2.2 L and I'm getting the same whine (radio is off). It increases in volume as the rpms approach 2000. I figure It's got to be alternator or belt related since it changes with engine speed.
I know this is an old thread, but if someone has figured this out, pls let me know.
