Ignition Key Stuck, Engine Running
Happened to me on a Sunday night. Could not get the key out of the ignition of my 2009 HHR automatic, would not even shut off, so it ran all night (locked it). (only takes a tiny bit of gas for 8 hrs of idling BTW) Took it in to the dealer Monday AM, and they took a day to get it fixed - no cost to me, free loaner. Apparently this is a widespread problem, by the way they answered me - didn't want to admit to a widespread problem, haha. They put in a new lock and had to reprogram the computer for the new keys that came with the new lock.
Key stuck in ignition so can't shut car off
I have a 2010 Chevy HHR. I've only owned it since March 2010 and last night the ignition locked with the car still running. My car had to be towed to the dealership after calling ONSTAR. ONSTAR connected me to Chevy roadside who indicated this problem was a known issue with these vehicles and was a recall. I never received anything in the mail and I'm being told today by (Jerry Haag Motors in Hillsboro Ohio-did not purchase in Hillsboro just the closest dealership near my home)this is not a recall and I'm responsible for the charges on the vehicle even though I purchased a warranty for 100,000 miles. They said the warranty doesn't cover it. I do not understand how you can pay the money you do for a vehicle and have it a year and a half and I'm responsible for something that is obviously failing in other HHR vehicles based on the posted forums.

This kind of failure is an embarassment
Just another one of those things, that should NOT be going wrong with an automobile built at this point in time. This is not supposed to be the 1970's GM. With all the advances in engineering, quality, and refinement. With price tags to match. To have things like this going wrong with cars is inexcusable.
