ok, my turn with the ignition switch problems to add to the list. some help form people that had there fixed would be awsome. 06 LT2, ignition will turn off from run to Acc, but not release to off unless i press the manual release button. What parts do i need to fix this exact problem. either from parts lists on warranty/dealer repairs or personal repairs done. i want to do this on my own, as i do not have the 4-500 the dealer just quoted me to try and fix the problems, as they say they do not know what the issue is, like they never even heard of such a thing with these cars. wtf....are they kidding. hate my local dealer. any help would be appreciated.

It's your shifter not actually registering that it's in park more than likely..... Common problem with the early ones.

There's a few threads on the forum about replacing the whole shifter or repairing the plastic bit that breaks.... with the repair you have to make the piece, it's not available separately.

ok, is there a seperate switch in the shifter to register its in park, cause when i put it in park, all the doors unlock, so it is tripping at least that electric switch. is there another that actuated the lock mech. on the dash seperate from the door locks.

If you didn't have an '06 Rat I'd say your problem lies with the ignition switch/cylinder, but being that its an '06 you may be dealing with the shift interlock issue that cropped up on them.

Here's a link to a thread on that, its a long one but you might be able to glean some helpful info from it including the part number of the revised shifter assembly.

I don't know if there's more than one switch or not and I don't know if those with the shifter caused "stuck key" issue had their doors unlock when putting it in park..... Look through the link 843 posted and see if it rings any bells. I was looking for the other thread for a bit earlier and didn't find it...... I'll keep looking.

Rat, I had your problem when I had my 06. 843de hit it on the nose. You need a new shifter. It will solve your issues. There is nothing wrong with the lock cylinder. If the cylinder binds, you aren't getting the key out no matter what you do (had that one happen too... lucky me).
