ignition switch replacement

my hhr is running and i cannot get the key out or turn it off so I drive it to the nearest chevy dealer. $481.40 and 1 hr latter they say its fixed and the problem was a ignition switch. I was on my way to a graduation so I really was at there mercy but would like to know if this sounds like a dealer rip off or not

I like to drive so my 08 has 64k on it and no warranty. In hindsight I probably should have bought the extended

What part numbers were replaced? How much was the labor? How many labor hours did they charge you?

its a defective part. I have so far got, a new battery, fixed a airbag service lite, tpm's not reading correctly. They could argue that that stuff isnt driveline stuff. But it was covered.

I had ignition problems on my ford focus, it was much cheaper to have a locksmith replace the ignition cylinder than the stealer. about half the price, or so.

Worked even with electronic keys. I'd recommend calling a locksmith and getting a quote if anyone else has problems with the ignition cylinder.
