We still have not figured out what sensor you are talking about. The only sensor in that location is on 2009-2011's and is the ambient air temp sensor.

There IS a hood closed sensor that is a part of the latch mechanism, that would prevent remote start, but not door locking.

The FSM claims that the RemoteControlDoorLockReciever is located behind the rear quarter panel molding, but that is an ERROR. It is actually under that bump in the headliner next to the mirror.

Re: fob

Hi Gsnusman53,

I apologize for the trouble you are having with your HHR key fob. If this concern persists, you may need to replace the key with your involved dealership. Additional information can be found on page 2-6 of your Owner’s Manual, or at: http://www.chevrolet.com/content/dam...hhr_owners.pdf. Please don’t hesitate to reach out if there’s anything else I can help you with!

Thanks,

Kayla K.

Two questions.

One: Since money is tight for me, what is the most economic way to get a working fob -- repair or replace.

Two: GM or third party?

My mistake, I was trying to mention the receiver on the body. this is why my remotes weren't working properly.

Remote Control Door Lock Receiver-Behind left rear quarterpanel.

I know that's where the Service Manual says it is.
The book is WRONG! It is under the bump in the headliner near the rear view mirror.

I had a Mr.Goodwrench tearing my car apart looking for it, he swore to god that I did not have one (even tho my remote door locks worked). I pulled the edge of the headliner down and pointed to it.

That is unless you happen to have the 2-way remote; then you would also have an antenna in one of the rear qtr windows, and a remote with an LCD screen. I don't think they actually produced any, but they originally planned it so it got into the book.

Open up the key fob.

First off, measure the voltage of the battery. It is a CR2032, this is a 3Volt battery, new they will measure about 3.25V. If your battery gets below 3.00 Volts, it might start acting funny.

Second, While you have the back off check and make sure the battery holder is soldered firmly at all three points. This is a common problem with fobs as well, as someone else already mentioned

Third, as someone else also already mentioned, test the contacts using a piece of metal. If shorting the piece of metal across the copper contact cluster make sit work more reliable, then replacing the rubber button cover will likely fix this. eBay $3.

I think one of these will fix it, before you run out and buy another one.

You can get replacement key fob pads on ebay for a few bucks. some of a our members have glued a small amount of tin foil to the back of the key pad to repair the contact.

Search key fob repair and you will find lots of info.
THIS worked for ME, for over a year and still working.
In fact I skipped the glue altogether, used a HEAVIER gauge tin foil and cut it to FIT the oblong recessed slot inside the keypad.
