Letter from GM for ignition lock cylinder
It appears that this problem still hasn't been corrected. My 2011 HHR just developed this problem (couldn't turn the car off without intentionally stalling it). The dealer (Webb Chevrolet in Vancouver, WA) wouldn't cover it, saying that 2011 models aren't covered by this special customer satisfaction program (apparently they are covered by a customer dissatisfaction program). $250 for a local shop to replace the broken part.
Between this, the fuel injectors that all had to be replaced (a warranty item) and the never ending USB connectivity problems I have with the radio (another widely reported problem), I'm not confident that GM has its act sufficiently together to merit consideration in a higher price tier. Fortunately, I bought this car new for so little money that I am effectively self-insuring GM's inability to get things right out of the gate.

What "recall" are you speaking of? This thread is about a limited warranty extension. Read the thread for the exact text of the extension.
If you are talking about the recent recall on 2006-2007 models, go to "FRONT PAGE NEWS" on this site, there is a very long thread about it.
Basically, call your local dealership with your VIN available.

IIRC it is called a "Special Provision of coverage" good for 10 years from date of build.
For FREE ign replacement, should it ever not be able to turn off..
Weird how the older ones are shutting off by themselves, feel bad for those who were hurt or killed in accidents. GM is being investigated about this (as we know)..
thats funny my 2009 isnt under the recall as i just spoke to the dealer friday about that and the on going airbag light problem BUT GM just issued another airbag recall on 1.8 million of their suv's made between 2007 and 2011 for the same issue a lot of us have but the HHR does not seem to be covered..GM is an odd company.all the parts are the same made by the same company..if they recall some they should recall them all..
i know im not going to spend more money on my 09' HHR, endless airbag connector and sensor issues and the dealer wants 98 bucks per visit to hook the car to the computer then charge by the hour and for parts...if I can get the service airbag light to go off long enough Im going to trade it in..these cars are money pits.
