Manual Shifter

So, I went to the U-Pull yard yesterday. They had 13 HHRs and not one manual shift car. They did have two manual shift Cobalts. Will the shifter from a 5-Speed Cobalt work in an HHR? They sure look the same.

My son's car is 2008 HHR LT and is shifting fine for the moment but, might not be a bad idea to have spare lying around since they are out of production.

I didn’t find one on EBay. Discontinued on GM parts sites.

Manual Shifter - cont

This is what I got, which doesn't match either part number listed above. It definitely came out of a Cobalt. I pulled it myself.

If it won't work in the HHR, I'll post it for sale on the Cobalt Forum or eBay.

GoOgle/Ebay says that is the shifter assembly for a 2009 Cobalt.
It appears yhat the date on your part is Nov. 14, 2006. That probably means they never changed.

Why do you worry the shifter might fail? The cables .are much more likely to fail.

That eBay listing is the ONLY search result for that number. The number is not anything in the GM parts database. My thought is that is a casting number, not a part number.

Not saying it definitely won't work. You could do some measuring, the mounting bolt spacing, try to determine if it will fit under the console, things like that. You'd have to access the shifter that's in your car now. Let us know how this goes!

The plastic pin that the left side of the shifter pivots on is partially broken. I drilled the end out and ran a bolt through the hollow shaft and secured with a nut. It's holding up so far. Both the shifter in the car and the one from the junkyard have "GM > PA6 GF30 < stamped into them at the front end toward the firewall , under where the cable ends anchor.

Probably a mold/pattern number.

But only that part of the shifter is the same.
