Manual Transmission Noise
Time to share my experience. I purchased a 2007 1LT Black 5 speed in late '07. The car had 2400K. (Yes, I bit the bullet and purchased not only mud flaps but running boards too.) Soon after, I started to notice a faint whining noise coming from the transmission while hovering around 55 mph. I can however pick up the sound while accelerating through the entire gear sequence. Needless to say I was concerned and it has been to the dealer SIX times for the same reason. The last four times I had to produce the sound for them. Up until now they were convinced it was the engine intake (been pulled twice) and only on my latest visit (31K) admitted it was coming from the gear box. They drained it and claimed it drained free of excess fm, and refilled. They also added a noise inhibitor. I have thier guarantee that it is a normal resonnance(sp?) coming from the gear box. There are no TSB's. Am I losing my mind to think this is abnormal? >>I am open to opinions<<

It could be the cut of the gear. I have a 5 speed as well and have not noticed it but maybe I should turn down my radio.
The newer Harley 6 speeds went to a straight cut 5th gear, as opposed to helicut, and it whines like a Long Island Princess. Harley techs were fielding calls for a year about it.
