Keep taking it back to the dealer being it is a 2011 model - if you mention "SAFETY ISSUE" they should jump on it - and have them escalate it within GM if they haven't gotten anywhere after a couple of visits.

 

I'd find another dealer. One that could actually fix your problem.

 

Our 2010 HHR just started showing the SERVICE AIRBAG, sometimes accompanied by the musical tone. It stays on for quite awhile. Today i hit the information button (as suggested here) & it cleared the message, but the lit up seatbelt icon remained on.

The car spent Friday at the dealer with this diagnosis:a computer module has to be replaced (on order) which is under the front seat. I recently had the seatbelts replaced because they were not releasing. Also the 'cigarette lighter" fuse has been replaced 3 times.

According to the mechanic the computer module was probably damaged by the cell phone in my wife's purse, which is usually sitting on the front passenger seat. Hard to believe. ....12,000 miles left on warranty. Any suggestions. I read a lot of the postings and didn't see anything about cell phone damage. Also I've been using the local branch of the dealer's service division. If it can't be solved here I will take it back to the original point of purchase dealer.

 

It's not the cell phone itself, but her heavy purse that may have sharpish objects on it. Sounds like they are saying the sensor bag is punctured, it's like an inflatable seat cushion that senses a butt in the seat, if it gets punctured it sends a broken signal. Other things that can do it comb in back pocket, keyring on belt etc.
