Okay guy's I have flushed the system out , put in a new thermostat and new sensor . I can drive the car 6 Mile's and the heat guage goes to 3/4 up the guage and digital read out is saying 230 . As soon as you stop the car it drops 15 degrees on the digital and down to 1/2 on the guage. There is no loss of power , no rough idle . Everything seems to be right other than that .

Is the fan running? It should turn on at 219F and back off at 180F. If the fan is not cooling the coolant down to the 190's there is something wrong with the radiator.

Post #1 quote: "and the hoses where just warm not hot. "
Either the radiator is plugged up from that "grit" you found or worse case scenario is the water pump may not be working.
(noted that you said the cooling fan was working in the earlier posts)

It should come ON at 219F and OFF at 180F. Or turn on when AC/defrost is on.

The t-stat is trying to keep the temp ABOVE 180F, the fan is trying to keep the temp BELOW 220F

Crystal/clumpy gunk in coolant can be either overheated DexCool or somebody dumped stuff in there to plug a leak. Sandy stuff comes from using "flush" chemicals that are not formulated for aluminum alloy engines.

Could be water pump. Outside chance of a timing chain stretch.

New radiators cost less than $100 on ebay.

Don't even look at the analog gauge. the exact position doesn't say anything; it is basically a 3 position off,OK,hot.

We have decided to take the radiator completely out of the car and do a flush on it again. The water pump isn't making any noise and can't find any coolant leaking around it anywhere . Car tried to run up to 240 for about a min then come back down to 205 it's 68 degrees outside right now .
