New HHR owner, Tranny problem
Transmission problems again
Hi, i guess im just kind of venting here. I purchased my 2007 HHR LT back in July with 79,000 miles on it. I thought i was getting a steal, i was wrong. Turns out two days after i bought it, from a private seller, the transmission started slipping. Goodie. So i take it into AAMCO. They tell me that i need a rebuild. I had already fallen in love with the car, so i said sure, lets go ahead and do it. Two weeks and $3800 i get my car back. Drive it for two days, and it starts slipping worse than before. At least there's a 16000 mile warranty on it right? So i take it back in, the have it for another week, i get it back, and all is well. Fast forward two weeks. I get a small almost negligible slip as im getting off the freeway. The lights green, i coast through the turn, then go to accelerate, and the engine just revs and doesn't catch for a second. It doesn't do it again after that so i think, okay, maybe that was just a fluke. I had that happen to me two more times over the next two months. Fast forward to last weekend. It slipped again as i was getting off the freeway, so at that point i said enough is enough. I go to try to drive it home, and at every red light it starts slipping. it doesn't want to grab and go after being stopped. So i have it towed back to AAMCO. They have had it since last Saturday. I just got off the phone with them, and they told me that they replaced every single part inside the transmission, sans the case. They test drove it last night, and it drove fine for about 30 minutes, then it started doing the same thing again. So now, i guess they are looking for another remanufactured transmission to replace mine with. And now im out of a car for probably another week.
What i guess it boils down to, is if they replaced every single part inside the transmission, how in the hell is it STILL slipping? Is there something, anything else that could be effecting it? If you've made it this far, thank you for taking the time to read through my little rant.

Bad rebuild.
Bad technician.
Bad install.
++++Take your pick
Aamco is of course going to explain away any fault to the parts supplier, they are not going to blatantly yes, they screwed up. Either they skipped replacing a part, installed a wrong or defective part or what ever.
Did you purchase the car as is? Or certified? Is there a lemon law in your state?
as for Aamco, the transmission shop, they have an obligation to rebuild the transmission correctly,
if they do not I suggest you contact a lawyer and go after both parties legally, the seller for that $3,800.00 and the transmission shop for the repairs done incorrectly.

Oh, you should be good to keep the HHR . It is just frustrating that the transmission wasn’t fixed correctly the first time! These 4T45E ‘s are good transmissions , just the franchisee and his mechanics aren't too familiar with them.
