Recently installed a shifter for a 2009 with boot in my 06.
Repaired the original to keep as a spare. Purchased from GM Parts Giant GM# 25860318, they omit the first 2 digits , #860318 @ 87.19 + shipping.
Hope this helps.

Apologies for the terribly long delay in replying, folks and thanks for all the help.

I just won a shifter from a 2009 LT2, on ebay, for $65 shipped. Sometime over the next couple of weeks, I'll get to experience the joys of fitting it.

Since I'm more of an electronics guy, I'll probably take her car round to the father in law's (a retired master mechanic) to work on it.

She now has power steering issues, too, but I'll start a separate thread on that, once I've educated myself a bit on the issues.

Another newbie

Had it happen today - thank goodness for all these posts. I have contacted one of the GM service reps that are in these forums and am hoping for a lead on a local dealership to follow the others mentioned here and fix it for me. Fingers crossed as I drive my car A LOT for work and this whole thing is a complete pain.

Having just bought it used in July, to say I am unhappy with this development would be an understatement!

Sorry to hear. It does really suck. Try and get the dealer to goodwill it for ya. That's what mine did. I was out of warranty but they covered it as they know it's a common problem.

Fixed in under 24 hours for FREE

Hi foks, just an update. Was able to take my HHR to local Chevy dealer this morning and they changed out my ignition under the Customer Satisfaction program that relates to this problem in under an hour.

Also, I received a response from Michelle, a customer service rep with Chevy who has posted on here, that indeed this issue is something they are aware of and it is covered if your VIN falls within the ranks of those afflicted. I sent her a private IM with my VIN through this network on Sunday night, had an answer by 9:45 am Monday.

Gotta say - this network rocks and GM had my back today!

That's great to hear. Nice to hear of a dealer that actually worked out good.

AngelJ, did your husband get his HHR into them yet? I hope you have a great weekend planned.
