GM should not sell the HHR without running boards. They will never learn. I will never buy GM again!

I totally agree with the first part of this statement. While some owners in southern states might not "need" the boards, any HHR in the snow belt does. It's probably why GM Canada wisely choose to correct the problem and make them standard.

I have an 06 LT with the same issue. I have splash guards- no running boards- and I use a Turtle Wax colored polish to help mask the problem.

I have my HHR going in today for a number of minor issues and they are going to "look" at this sandblasting problem. I'm sure that I will have to fight them to get it fixed.

I am preparing to start the second year of winter driving since having the running boards installed. Amazingly enough, after the finish of last winter, I inspected my HHR and found no damage or sand blasting to the rear doors. However, I did find some sand blasted areas on the underside of the running boards. I knew that was going to be expected. But, unless you lie down and crawl under my vehicle you would never know it was there. Safe driving to all during the upcoming winter season.
