I think this is the second report of this type of leak, to my memory. Yes, it is dreaded because it's a difficult repair.

But donbrew is correct, it's not oil under pressure, so it will only seep a small amount while the engine is running, perhaps a short time after shutdown. I would give the cleaning and resealing in place a try.

Huh. I think you’re saying transmission fluid glows under black light. In every case? I didn’t know that.

I do know some a/c refrigerant has lubricant that is seasoned with fluorescent dye. Maybe they all are, IDK.

My 2006 has had an oil leak for a while Changed the valve cover gasket, which was so old it was brittle Still a small leak Used dye and nothing Then noticed that the oil is dripping from the drain plug in the oil pan

Is this common? We loosened the bolt a little and applied some silicone seal and it has pretty much stopped. Hopefully the worn threads are on the drain plug and not the oil pan...fingers crossed

Oil pan plug should only be torqued to 15 ft lbs there is a gasket on the bolt.

You are "supposed" to change the gasket every change.

Do you prefer the rubber or copper crush gasket?

What's the OEM part?
That's what I prefer.

Here's the brand new take-off from my LHU. It's a rubber-like material.
