Possible new owner with a ? about moonroof leaks
#11
Only had my HHR for 3 months but have not had a drop of water come from the roof. I had my Grand Prix for 7 years and never had a leak from the sunroof. I think whoever told you that they are designed to leak is full of it.

Thanks again for the welcomes and the experiences. I agree that the dealership may be full of it and oddly enough I was told again yesterday that it was designed to be airtight but not watertight.
So far we're not doing so well in trading. The 1st dealer we have gotten a trade in value from 1st said I might not be able to get my GMS discount and the rebate. I told him he might want to take that up with GM before I do then they came back at about $2000.00 under book. What a joke let alone an insult. We just got up and walked out. And the GM wonders why they can't sell any vehicles!!
Oh well we're going to try again and we may just try to sell outright and disclose the sunroof. Thanks again all!!

I had a 98 Neon with a sunroof. I loved it most of the time. The problem was that it broke about a half dozen times due to bean counters trying to save a few bucks on critical high stress pieces. I finally re engineered the weak parts to make it stronger and from that point on it worked flawlessly.
Mine only leaked once or twice but then it was only a few drops and it stopped. I think it was pooled water that had not made it to the drain tube.
If you take care of your sunroof they shouldn't be a problem, Keep the tracks greased, don't open it in the winter when the grease is thick, don't get wax on the seal and keep the drain tubes free of debris you shouldn't have a problem, If you do this the only problem you would have to worry about is bad engineering.

I don't have the moon roof, however I agree the dealer is full of it..and if they don't make you a good deal..move on, try many dealers...let them know they are competing for your business...Aug closeouts should be going on??? Good Luck, hope you find the deal you want...

My 2006 has leaked since I got it. The reason is because the windscreen broke & was removed (before I purchased it) and without the windscreen (which costs $115) the sunroof sets too low and doesn't seal. Other things to consider, blow out the drain holes once or twice a year. If it is the older molder pre-2007, I think, there are other sources of water leak than the moonroof/sunroof, do a search on this website.
