Quick Question Regarding Wheel Studs

Hello! So I just replaced the front brake rotors and pads and was able to take my tire off just fine to do so. However, when I tried to put it back on, I realized the lug nuts wont go on all the way. I tried buying fresh new lug nuts but to no avail. Would it be better for me to just replace the wheel studs and if so, can I remove the old one with a hammer and then insert a new one in its place? I'm new to doing car repairs on my own and want to make sure I'm doing everything correctly. Thanks in advance to all who respond!

First, why won't they go back on? Wrong rotors?

I'm not sure if it's because of a wrong rotor, never thought of that though. (This is for my passenger side, I was able to replace the driver side rotor just fine with no lug nut issues or anything). I think the wheel studs may be worn out.

I don't recommend removing them with a hammer because you can mess the bearings up. You probably can borrow a tool from Autozone/Advance/etc that will press them out and in.

As a last resort you can knock them out and use a lug nut and washer to press them in.

That sounds reasonable - what tool would I have to get from the auto store? Thanks again.

Probably would be in one of the ball joint sets, don't know for sure.

This is one of the sets specifically for wheel studs. But the ball joint tools may work.

Welcome to the site, even easier , change your axle hubs, new studs and you won’t damage the bearings pounding out the old studs
