Replacement Battery for HHR

The battery in my 2006 HHR is not 4 years old and it is time to replace it before the hot Arizona sun leaves me stranded somewhere.

I have searched the battery threads but did not see any definitive answer on replacement HHR batteries. The last I checked, Autozone, Checker, etc did not have direct replacements. I guess that is due to the vent required since it is located inside the car?

What has everyone been doing as far as replacements? Should I go back to a dealership?

Thanks. Turns out none of the Autozones in Arizona have it in stock but the Chevy dealership here in Tucson has it for the same price ($99.95 + $12 core).

Me personally I like AC Delco batteries. The one in my truck lasted 7 years, and the one in my Lumina was original, and died after 8 years. The one I replaced in the Lumina with only lasted about 3 years, and it's Parts Master.

I know other brands are good, but when a battery that only should last 5 years goes 7 or 8, that's good!

I have not needed a battery yet. But I have been shopping because I'm going on 5 years with the OEM Delco.

I have kind of narrowed it down to the WalMart Max 47 (mostly do to a Consumers report of a top rating). It's only $77.00 and a direct replacement ......even with the purge tube.

I believe Costco's house brand is made by the same people. Forgot the price, however.

Oh, for what it is worth.....the Duralast IS rated slightly higher, but it needs to be in the "Gold" range of Duralast. The "regular" Duralasts where near the bottom. The Diehards, almost universally, are rated the best........but are 2 to 3 times the cost of the next closest competitor.

I went with the Delco 90-6YR, same as the OEM. The original is over 4 years old and the 105 degree to 110 degree temps we have now will likely do it in this year -- so I am taking a preventive step and replacing it.

I put in the OEM Delco 90-6YR today in my wife's 2006 LT. The old battery looked like brand new but the concern about the desert heat and being 4+ years old made it seem like the right decision.

The install was a breeze. You have to take a lot of stuff out to get to it but because it is not in the engine compartment everything is clean and nothing is corroded due to heat.
