A spray on white lithium grease is what I had dried up on my shifter

If your shifter seems to be stuck, but you can hear the clicking sound when you hit the brakes, do this- pump the brakes several times while depressing and releasing the shifter release button at the same time. Wiggle the shifter left/right while pulling back, and it will eventually move. Mine got to this point before I lubed the shifter internally with WD-40. Problem gone now.

Can’t argue with what you explicitly stated, but if you’re implying that WD 40 is a good long-term lubricant final fix, I have to disagree. I have had many experiences with the stuff drying up, leaving things operating poorly or not at all, even indoors. And doing little or nothing for corrosion protection, for than matter.

I’m not alone. Many mixed reviews on that point. At best.

I find it great for displacing water, which is perhaps their oldest claim.

WD40 is a SOLVENT like diesel fuel, made from oil and a bit slick. Is that clear enough?
No implication of long term lubrication made.
