Shut hatch with batteries out - can I use the posts up front?

Basically pull the relay and bypass it with the 9V.

You could also connect the + from your 9 volt battery to pin 14 and the - to pins 4 and 5 on your OBD port. That would provide power to open the hatch.

I think I meant pop the fuse, not the relay, then use the 9v + on the switch side. It's been a while since I looked at that.

I'm not doubting him. I'm just suggesting another way to do it. I've been 'fixing' cars for about 50 years myself.....seldom do I send a vehicle to the stealership for repairs.

Yep, and then here's another : one of those memory minder things that you plug into the 12Volt accessory outlet. Or one of those cheap "jump start" things that plug into the same outlet, I happen to have one in my car (they are 12V and cost around $10).
