Maybe contact ZZP and ask about tuning your ECM ?
Explain your situation with that 2.2 where a 2.4 should be?
Ask what is the best way to resolve the issues, is it just a matter of time and reflash with a Tech II scanner? Or is a full tune required?

Thanks Oldblue. Went to their Web site and see that they are closed on weekends. I sent an email with a short explanation and asked for guidance. Appreciate the link to them and I will certainly report what I get back and where I end up going with this. Cheers

I just checked and even the ECM is common between the 2.2 and 2.4, so it must be the program flash that is different. So possibly a 2.2 ECM installed into your HHR will let you see if it runs better, even though it’s not fully tuned to your HHR, which you don’t want because it’s not looking at a 2.4 instead the 2.2.

Might be worth a try to jus get a 2009-2011 2.2L ECM from the local junk yard. It' just a unplug plug job.

donbrew and Oldblue - I will pursue both of your suggestions! Thanks very much for the effort and support of providing this guidance and info. I will hopefully be able to report some progress by early next week. Light at the end of the tunnel??? Hope so! :)

Response from ZZP:
Hello Michael,
Honestly, I would suggest the most direct route. In this case is getting the engine the PCM calls for. there are a few differences between the 2.2 and 2.4, so if you get an actual 2.4 that should fix everything.
Ryan Derrick
I replied with a plea for some alternate solution but have not heard back from him.
In the mean time I am waiting to hear from the dealership service manager who has opted to put me in contact with "a guy" who does tuning on a variety of cars to see if he can help me.
Oldblue: Every outfit I call regarding this will only provide me with an ECM/PCM that is programmed based upon my VIN number which just gets me another one programmed for a 2.4l engine.

So on that theory you should be able to swap in an ECM for a 2.2? Do you have the HHR back, did you investigate those numbers for the ECM?

Oldblue: Here are photos of the modules and the label on the timing chain side of the engine. Hope you can tell me something magical based on this! :)
