Steering Column Rattle

Steering Column Rattle
Hello, has anyone had issues with the steering column rattling? My mechanic gave me a copy of Tech Service Bulletin 04-03-08-006B describing my car's annoying rattling sound that only happens now and then. Sometimes it is soft, barely there, other times, especially on the freeway, it sounds loud and dangerous, then calms down. Some info online says it is the aging of the plastic part in the steering assembly, another says it is the u-joint connector. Has anyone had experience with this issue? I have a 2007 with 276,000 miles on it, and have put a lot of other repairs into it... hoping to keep it on the road a few more years. Thanks in advance.

Thank you so much, as I searched through this website I saw many postings in the repair section... silly me I was looking in the recall section. I will look into it further, I am not a mechanic, so I rely on professional and experienced advice. Do you know how much that repair runs? Donbrew... I had not checked out the link in your sig yet... but I will tonight. Everyone have a great day!

That link is the same as the document your mechanic gave you.
It tells a mechanic how to diagnose which part is bad. I don't know why he would hand it to a consumer, unless he thought you were capable of doing the work yourself.
TechnicalServiceBulletins are intended to tell professionals how to do things or what to look for. They are of little value to a person that only knows where the fuel filler is.
If it is a intermediate shaft; the part (25834100) is listed at about $207, labor is about 1 hour according to AllData.
