I recently purchased a new HHR LS and have been failry happy with the vehicle I noticed an odd squeak when turning left at slower speeds I took the car to my dealer and was adivsed that one of the steering gears had failed and was causing the squeak. The car had no problems steering just and anoying squeak that sounded like metal rubbing against rubber. The dealership made the repair under warranty and everything seems fine does anyone else have a similar story is this just a weak point on these cars.

First Ive heard of that particular problem from anyone here, but I guess anything can happen.

Older ones especially have had some steering column failures but I don't recall anyone having a recurring problem with it.

Not common....probably a defective part....remember parts like these are made from outside vendors and they have bad days too.
