The diode is to stop back current to the pull in coil.
Yes the diode is directional.
I know it's another conspiracy. There is no diode in the circuit, only the propaganda wiring diagram to fool us.
Dr. Loch the symbol in question on the relay is for a fixed resistor. A resistor like this can allow current in either direction.
If it was a Bidirectional Diode it would show your drawing, it does not.
So what is causing this person's problem to start with ?
