Hello Everyone !! New hear but couldn't help but get on here and discuss this. I have a 2006 HHr. I have always had this issue. Clunking and knocking. Only when cold. I took it in 2 times back in Texas but they never could find it. Took it in last week here in Denver, after 4 days of trying they finally "heard" it and replaced the sway bar bushings. Drove it home and it ws great. Next morning at 19 degrees it was horrible, worse than before. Took it back this week and they say it is the sway bar. The mechanic, GM and myself (all from my shop) think it sounds like bad struts. We will see, I will update on Saturday. As for the lighter less annoying clunk I got a new steering column. Pretty irritating but they are making an honest effort to fix it.

I have an 07 hhr and I have the same noise as the rest of you are describing, below 35 and it knocks. I took mine in back in early dec. and they replaced both lower controll arms. That did nothing, so it went back in and they replaced both struts and upper mounts, that did nothing. Than they removed the sway bar from the car and that did nothing. Next they pulled the struts and reinstalled them and that did nothing. Than they pulled in an new 08 that wasn't making any noise and swaped out some parts with mine and that did nothing. So after 47 days of my car being in the shop it now makes the noise at any temp. and also while rocking the car back and forth. I really think it is going to find a new home. I am sure that the eng's will find a fix sometime in the future just not sure when.

noises

I have had clunking noises for months now, I have had the sway bars replaced and the tie rod, that was for the front, it is doing it again, and now in the back too,,,,I guess back to the shop again!!!

Also on a different note, for those of you who live in cold climates,,,I have a problem getting into my car when it is cold, snowing, ice etc, like the doors wont open all the way, also i get ice damns in the corners of the doors, so my driver door front bottom corner, grinds across the ice until it is gone, I think it is going to cause a rust problem soon, any ideas??

I have the running boards and the same problem. Be very careful, someone has already bent the corner of the door out because of that lump. I had to (carefully) take a hair dryer to mine to get it to open. I think its because the water freezes to the sound deadening material in the fender. One of these days I might try fitting a piece of plastic in there to block the water from the pad to see if that helps...

BTW,

I had the bed spring squeak noise when it got cold out too. It also was the stabilizer bushings. New ones were installed and I havn't heard any noise yet (driven in -40F temps). I only had 1500 miles on my HHR when they started making noise...I was not very happy.

They have to place foam around parts in order to keep them from hitting each other and making that noise. It was gone this morning when I went to work and it was 30 degrees. So maybe it's fixed for good now.
Do you have the TSB number and description?

Sweet and short, I suggest checking the stabilizer links.

Boy I hope this fixes mine. The dealer told me they couldn't replicate the noise this morning but they ordered the bushings anyway. I can't believe they couldn't replicate it with how cold it was this morning(15 deg) but at least they're replacing the likely culprit.
