Timing Chain gears
The factory service manual also says to use new bolts.
I'll check with the dealer to see if they are in stock and then decide what to do. Since the bolts are so important and hard to get to, maybe I'll bite the bullet and get new ones.
The tightening sequence of 39 lb-ft plus 25 degrees doesn't sound like enough to make it a TTY bolt.
Maybe Don is right, that the bolts come with sealer pre-applied and that's why they call for new ones.
I took one of the old bolts and threaded it in by hand. It only went about 1 revolution before getting hard to turn, so there is still a lot of sealer gumming up the threads.
