Timing Chain Guide
I am going to reuse the guide so I can wrap up the project this weekend. This goes against my usual policy of new parts when disassembling internal engine parts, but the guide is in remarkably good shape. Actually, the chain and all the guides were in good shape. The car has 210K miles on it. I bought it from a former forum member about 5 years ago with 113K miles. I am thinking that he might have replaced the timing parts once already. Even the water pump bearings were tight. However, I am replacing all the timing parts, balance shaft chain and parts, water pump, spark plugs, etc.
I removed the exhaust manifold (which came off easy) to access the water pump/coolant pipe/thermostat assembly from above behind the engine. It made access a lot easier.
PS, I will be going down south next month to look for another pair of used HHRs for a couple more kids that have learner's permits now.
