Timing chain whine after water pump replacement

Hi there everyone I am having a well known whine issue with my hhr since having the water pump replaced I’m guessing the balance shaft tensioner may need to be reset but I heard that even then it may still whine so would it be best to just replace the whole chain and get a new kit to do it the car does have 160,000 miles on it so it might be time.

I had that happen; a replacement water pump fixed it. NAPA pumps are not great in my opinion.

Yes I would say a whine type noise is not indicating an issue with timing chains, more likely a pulley or the water pump.

Follow up

So a week later car still whines and check engine light came on took it too the mechanic and pulled the codes it was a vvt selonoid so it was replaced and the car still whines so I’m guessing that’s not good I heard that going through vvt selnoids is due to a timing issue no mechanic has figured out why it makes noise though so any thoughts

Pulled up codes? What codes? What did they replace?
it is most likely the water pump, or something else they messed with.

The code was due to the vvt selonoid i just had the water pump replaced and since then it just been making the whine noise i also had to have the manifold replaced as well. the only thing he replaced this time was the seloniod.
