Tire Noise...extreme!!

Sound deadening material/methods?? After going with TigerPaws by Uniroyal with a long treadwear, the noise from the tires is just as loud or louder than with cheap Mastercrafts. Would replacing factory Sports shocks and adding sound lowering material help??

Long treadwear = harder compound = more noise.
Turn the radio up.

Don, Thanks...I have a 6 sticker on both my HHR and 16 Buick Encore. Have appt to have Buick done 6/2 at dealer. I will set up HHR to be inspected and I'll have them look at wheel bearings. Sounds like left rear...there was a right rear rub of inner fenderwell and plastic lower outer. I used Black NASCAR tape and noise went away. It was cause by a loose plug screw holding the inner rear well panel to lower plastic fender part. Didnt have any fasteners and parts stores closed. Havent' forgot ice cream no lead gas run...not over Memorial Day weekend. Tomorrow is Thursday, wife off, but working all Mem Day weekend. Have to stay close to watch animals. Regards, Billy

State inspection does not look at hubs. Not a good idea to publish your email, makes it public property.

Safety inspections, depending on if the hub is bad, will find it , my wife had a chevy Venture AWD and the rear hub went bad, made noise while driving and eventually the wheel kicked out as the bearings wore (you could wobble the wheel if it was off the ground. 200inpd is the torque for that axle shaft and a 27mm socket I remember

For the HHR, front hub, the cv axle torque is 155 ft/lbs. 30 mm deep socket 1/2 drive, the three hub bolts 85 ft/lbs 15 mm socket

It’s in here

In VA they pull 1 drum brake and while checking ball joints might notice bad hubs, but that is not what they are looking for. In VA there is only a "brake and light" inspection not a trouble inspection. It is only by luck that the inspector even notes anything other than pass/fail items. In VA they are not salesmen beyond light bulbs, and then they don't do the work unless it is an off day. Most inspectors only do inspections not mechanic work, they are too busy.

In some states the inspector is a salesman prospecting for flat rate hours.
