What's the cost? Do they have to replace the entire valve stem?

Legally? Don't think so. It is covered by some type of Federal mandate or something.

someone told me that a tech 2 will disable it
it wouldnt seem like it would be against the law to disable a tire pressure sensor

"someone told me that a tech 2 will disable it"

Well, then get them to disable it for you. BUT, like I stated, pretty dang sure it's against a Federal law or mandate.(2008 and newer cars I believe)

Fwiw. Google it. There's a ton of folks asking about how to disable their TPMS. All the answers see to be-- No.

Why would you want to disable it? Is it malfunctioning?

OK, think back a few years... remember Ford-Firestone tire inflation causing death. And then somebody said "there ought to be a law...." and congress had an easy law to make, had nothing to do with Social Security or guns or taxes and it saves lives (at least the ones who are to stupid to check their tires and need another IDIOT light) and only added $100 to the cost of all cars.

It really was big news when it happened. I am surprised how many don't remember.
A note to everyone who hates TPMS, NEVER say "there ought to be a law" again.

They wanted 60.00 each, but settled for 35and tax. It's the whole thing new stem and cap included. I have to wine a little to get the chrome caps, really.

It is the law, I was reading the pamphlet while they were doing it...I think the guy who disables it receives the infraction, so none of them will do it.
