Transmission Control Module
Transmission Control Module
Has anyone have to have this replaced? Someone told me to replace it at 140,000 miles because they have a history of going bad at that mileage and if that happens than a $500 module replacement possibly becomes a $2000 transmission fix.
He said if you replace it I will get 200,000 miles out the transmission.
I have a 137000 miles on my 2007 lt1 and wondering if this would be a good PM move on my part.
TIA.

Never heard that before from anyone.
The TCM does just that, it Controls the transmission while interacting with the other interrelated powertrain modules. A failing TCM can give you hard shifts, as can a half dozen other faults that come to mind.
So I suppose that driving about for tens of thousands of miles with a bad module could lead to failure of the transmission, it's nothing that needs to be changed out on a time/mileage related basis.
It sounds like someone trying to sell you an expensive part($500 ?!?) + a line of B.S.
The best way to keep your 4T-45E transmission happy is to follow the maintenance schedule in your owner's manual. Or as a lot of us geezers do, service the transmission every 30,000-50,000 miles.

$500 for an HHR TCM?? I've seen AC Delco factory replacement units for as low as $60 on Amazon and never more than about $135 anywhere else. And that's for a new (not rebuilt) unit. Even allowing for programming/labor it would be well under $500.
