Notified last Thursday (while on vacation 900 miles away) by the dealer that new ordered HHR panel had come in BUT coming off the trailer roof got damaged in three places - each side off the corner of the sunroof and right by the antenna. Roof is now repaired looks OK but question is what to do, take it or wait and order a 2008 - dealer says can no longer order 2007's. Any suggestions welcomed.

 

Hmmm. Sounds like this happens quite frequently!!! I looked at a Premiere Edition that was damaged the same way. Do you want to pay for an HHR that was damaged?!?

 

I would not knowingly accept a damaged HHR! With the '08's coming soon.... I'd opt for the 08!

To accept the repaired HHR, I would think it would be at a considerable discount.

 

This was my point, but again how long of a wait before 2008 can be ordered
dealer states they can no longer order 2007's anybody know if this is true.

I'm not sure about the States, but we ordered our car in Canada on April 24and were told that we just got in under the wire. Apparently the cut off date for the 2007's was May 14th or something close to that.

Good luck - let us know what you decide. It is heartbreaking to hear that your new car got damaged - we haven't got our call yet...waiting with great anticipation!

 

Did you look at the roof before the repair? dents? paint work? dents big,small,If it is the car you want talk to them if it was not to bad and the repair looks good see what they will do for you. Also if you do take the car make sure it is in the paper work that it was a repair before you took the car. If there is something down the road you have it on paper. Cars get bumped all the time a ding here a dents it;s a car. I know you want it right so sometimes $ can make it work for you! IMO

Mine had damage on the front bumper and passanger rear door sitting on the lot. I guess they hoped no one would notice. The door was just scuffed, probably from another door bumping it. The paint on the front bumper was actually cut in a few places. Looked like someone had backed into it. It wasn't bad but for a new car it shouldn't have any flaws imo. Anyway, long story short, the car was exactly the way I wanted it off the lot. I would have had to keep looking around or order one to get the same look and feel. I bought the car on the condition all of the paint was fixed. The dealer buffed the door out with no problem and repainted the front bumper cover. A couple of days and some other things fixed that I noticed on the test drive (warped rotors, shake in the steering wheel - 20 miles on OD! ) and the car is perfect and I have had no problems . I guess my point is if it's exactly the car you want and the work is top quality you should take it. If it's always going to be in your head that the roof was repaired, go for another one. I agree that documenting the repairs is a good idea.

 

Cosmetic damage is an easy fix. If it's a good shop, may look better than factory. I get in 80-100 new vehicles in each year at work. You would be surpised how many have cosmetic damage when they arrive. Odds are 60%+ on this site were damaged and the owners don't know it.

If it's what you want, get it.
