Changing axles is a very minor thing a screwdriver not a claw. I could do one side in less than an hour in my driveway. The GM MSRP for part #24233355 is $23.53 each. I don't know where $60 is coming from.
As I said earlier the plug you pull to check the fluid level is on the passenger side, so a drip there is expected.

When , I changed mine, I disconnected the ball joint and swung the strut out enough to get the inner piece of the axle to pop out, then changed the seal, then put the axle back into place , replaced the ball joint into the knuckle and followed correct torque procedures in the pinch bolt.
3 years later and still dry both sides.
