Water Leak/ Contacting GM
Water Leak/ Contacting GM
OK my HHR has been in 5 times now for the water leak, after the 3rd time it did really well for a while and I was quite happy with the service at my nearby GM dealer. We've been in a drought and not had our normal rainfal so we had a very dry winter and then summer so not many opportunities to leak, but it started again early fall. I took it back in with an appointment and left it, no word next day so following day no word. My SO used to work at this dealership and is friends with several of the guys in the service dept so he stopped in a couple of times while it was there. It was the second day before they got around to even touching it and he saw that they hadn't touched it by about 2 on the second day so he calls a couple of hours later and they say OH we couldn't find any leak. OK now I park on a down slope not really steep but a slope none the less and I have told them that and suggested that they jack the rear up, I also told them that it only leaks during a heavy prolonged rain, light quick showers no leak. OK we pick it up and a few days later another storm comes through and viola water on the passenger side floor again so back we go while it is still wet to show them.
New guy says he is new service manager (we know he used to the the detail boy) apologizes like crazy and says bring it in Monday so we do thinking ok one more chance. Monday drive by, still parked where I left it, Tuesday it's turned around but still parked outside, he calls, no they haven't had time to get to it yet (THEY told me to bring it Monday), Wednesday it's still parked outside and we go ask what is going on. The former detail kid is no where to be seen but the parts manager who doubles in the service window is there, I ask what is going on. He proceeds to tell me well we put the hose on it and no leak going to try something else when we have time. We also notice the mechanic is not there (we know him and what he drives, he is a friend) so I ask are you going to get to it today? He says I don't know, maybe if we have time. I say I'm getting really tired of being on foot, he says (NOW GET THIS) well if you had bought it HERE. I didn't hear anything else he said at this point I said GIVE ME MY KEYS I'M TALKING IT WITH ME I am NOT going to be without a car until next MONDAY.
This dealership is small and they used to have a VERY good service dept but the last good service manager left a month or so ago for a higher paying job.
I'm going to drive the 30 something miles to take it back to the dealership where I got it before I pitch a fit about the lemon law but in the meantime I do intend to contact GM and let them know what Crown Motors in Dayton TN is doing and how they are treating customers. Gee we didn't buy there because they have very little stock and their prices are several thousand higher than the bigger dealership in Chattanooga, if they run off their service customers they won't have ANY business at all.
Does anyone have a phone number to contact GM? SO is going to call them and give all of his ASE certification information and GM job history (before disabling injury) and let them know about Crown.

There's no excusing the 'if you'd bought it here" line, none of my cars came from the dealerships they get serviced at, since I had to search for them, and the Camaro was at a dealer 200 miles away.
Do you have a sunroof? it could be the drains running down the pillars being blocked or mispositioned - https://www.chevyhhr.net/forums/show...=sunroof+drain

Do you have a compressor? Pour soapy water over the front suspected area of the car and blow air (from the compressor) near the leak area on the interior. It should bubble on the outside of the car where it's leaking. Found many leaks this way.
My initial leak was the sunroof drain tube and from what I get from the dealership that is basically the area they continue to check and they can't get it to leak from there. This dealership has lost it's desire to please the customer since their good service manager left, that is obvious. As soon as he said "if you had bought it here" they lost me as a customer, I won't go back there for anything again. I KNOW it doesn't matter whether I bought it there or not to GM. Yes we do have a compressor and have a MR Goodwrench in residence. I will give the dealer I bought it from a chance to fix it though before he gets in there to find it himself. It has now become a matter of principal...lol. It's getting pretty bad when you have to show the mechanic how to fix your car but not a surprise in a time when you have to tell the doctor what is wrong with you before they can diagnose.
