Water leak on right side

My 06 HHR has developed a bad water leak by the right front door. Everytime it rains when car is sitting, the carpot near the right front seat is soaked. I have tried finding the leak with garden hose but can't. Has anyone had the same problem??? Thanks

From the threads and posts on this forum, it seems the 2006 had a problem with the cowling in front of the windshield. It leaked into the heater fan motor area, thus wetting the carpet and often taking out the motor speed resistor.

Check the cabin air filter to see if it is wet.

First thing I would check is the butyl patch that is under the outside cowl - they have been known to leak into the passenger footwell - here's a good link with pictures https://www.chevyhhr.net/forums/show...ht=butyl+patch

that link above also covers ......
- checking out the drain tube for the sun roof (if you have one)
- as well as the newly designed part for the butyl patch replacement from GM
- and how to make a more permanent one out of a piece of aluminum (which would be my choice I think)
- and to check the bellows between the door and frame

Good luck - let us know what you find.

Butyl patch problem

This has been a known problem for years. I know it affects 2006, but when was it corrected, 2007 or 2008? Girlfriend has 2006, I have 2007, and neither has leaked yet. It's a bit disconcerting that 5 years later, these continue to fail!

Some posts state that it was corrected for the 2008 model onward - not sure if that is fact or not. It really isn't surprising that they continue to fail, being they are a rather fragile design to begin with.

For those of us with 2006/7 models it would be prudent to inspect periodically and/or to install a permanent fix (as detailed in one of the links above). And also if having your windshield replaced, it would be a good idea to mention to the glass shop to inspect the patch and use caution during the installation.

Installing the permanent fix is on my to-do list in the spring.

I know my '08 does Not have the patch.
& IIRC, late 2007 models were first to be up-graded away from that dealio..

Water leaks into right front inside car

I had water leaking in car on right side front. I took the rubber patch under winsheld wipers off, made an alum. patch, sealed with sealer and use sheet metal screws to attach. Left it out in rain last night and is soaked again. Any ideas where water is coming from? Thanks for any help.

Check around your windshield. I had that to happen years ago on another car. they make a real thin silcon wind shield sealer that worked. At least they used to make it.

moonroof? If so, drain blocked. Somebody recently said the electrical connection boot on the door was leaking. the rubber gasket around the door could be loose. the windshield is sealed all the way around with butyl so it would only be leaking if a replacement windshield was installed poorly, there is no place to add silicone.
