Installing the axle nut too tight can cause premature hub failure. The Axle Nut torque spec is 155 5ft lbs and use a new nut

Where did you get that spec for torque ?

Many different sources state 155 ft lbs on the drive axle hub nut.

Now the hub/bearing assembly mounting bolts take 85 ft lbs.

Sorry sleeper, I mis-read the manual and made the correction. Old retired eyes don't work like when I was a kid in the Triassic period of time.

We took the HHR to the shop because of front end noise and I figured bushings right away. But all he could find was the bearing.

My shop told me there is a 1 year replacement on the $250 bearings and none on the cheap ones. He said that the bearing he replaced was loose?
Maybe not proper torque the last time?

Update

Replaced the 6 month old wheelbearing no charge .

Noise is still there. Mechanic can't find what it is.

I guess we will live with it like others do.

Oh well.

thanks KK4

Well I had the same problem on my 08 HHR.....the load roaring noise from the right front side. Today my stepson who is an Audi Tech replaced both bearing housings, the front rotors and pads and the upper strut bearings all for under $300.00. It feels like a new car!! Sure is nice to have a mechanic in the family!
