That would be a better situation. The 2.2 was upgraded in 2007 and then went the VVT in 2009.
physically the Malibu engine is the same , however the timing sensors are different and as you said the coils are different.
My engine builder, strongly recommended staying with the same year at least from a Cobalt , G5, Saturn, Saab and same 2.2 only.

I appreciate all the help! I'm really kicking myself for not doing enough research. I don't know what I was thinking. I'm just going to buy the one out of a same year cobalt and either sell this one or try to work out a trade with the guy.
