And remember that fire hydrants are designed to break off in an impact, they are mounted to the standpipes with frangible bolts.

Plus snapping a hydrant off will get you a ride in a shiny police car, a fine, and a bill from the city to replace the hydrant.

(And probably your picture on the front page of your local newspaper)

I am sorry but that hydrant move - excuse me for being TOTALLY blunt - is one of the stupidest moves I have ever heard of. It is not only dangerous for you and anyone nearby, but also opens you up to a real nice lawsuit.

Please tell me you're joking here. If you're not, then call 911 ahead of time because you're going to get someone seriously hurt or killed.
This is NOT the way for a father to teach his son.
X3 - I can't quite believe it - but it does take all kinds.

Yeah.....I had a couple of other questions and suggestions but, after that post, I'm content to just be a spectator.

LOL. I just had to throw that in there to get a laugh out of you guys. Everything is my serious intent, except for when I got to the part about " I am gonna back the car up to the fire hydrant in the front yard and chain the back wheels to it, then I am gonna ... yada yada yada " Yup I was successful in holding a straight face and telling the wife the same intent, boy do she go off the deep end, it was hilarious. I think a couple of you guys saw my humor, sorry if I scared the rest of you.

I was thinking of attaching the pickup and applying the brakes in the HHR and ever so slightly try to bump the bend out of the HHR frame, if it dont work as easily as I hope, then it is off to the frame puller.

But to be bluntly honest with you I did eye the fire hydrant think Humm..... for just an instance then I quickly snapped out of it.

At this point, sounds like maybe you should take it to a shop and let them repair it.

Well I have removed the engine cradle and yes the metal is much harder to bend than I had expected. Yup, heading to the collision center Monday.

Well I had hoped you really were just kidding about the hydrant.

But over the years, we've seen some unorthodox and plainly dangerous examples of "Backwoods Engineering", so the "are you bonkers?" responses were meant to express concern for your safety.

Taking it to a collision center is the right call, they'll be able to make repairs in hours that would have taken you days to accomplish, and it'll be as close to "right" as they can make it.
