Sitting in Jury Duty
I know here where I live, you just about cant afford to do jury duty. The court in my county pays like $25 a day. I cant afford to be paid $25 a day, but I know there will be a time where I will just have to grin and bear it, and serve my time.
I have enjoyed serving when I could, but that was before law school and passing the bar. At least in my experience once they here "Officer of The Court" its a case of "have a nice day, you're excused, and don't let the door hit you in the butt". I do agree that it is an economic hardship for many to serve on juries, the last time I served the daily stipend didn't even cover parking. As for Viking Man all those years ago in Pittsburgh, he spent the night in jail for his innovative approach to being excused, I don't recommend it.
I have been called multiple times, and if I get on a panel they always kick me off. I am not trying to get kicked off, but I ask lots of questions, and I work very hard on paying attention because I hate sitting idle(which makes me drowsy).
Odd though, they never kick me off by number. It's always by name, "We would like to excuse Mr Huntley". I did enjoy my last round of jury duty as there were two GeoCaches hidden in the parking structure, so I spent lunch looking for them.
