I was hoping to get the timing cover off this evening, but it looks like I either have to lower the engine a little or "modify" the structure to remove the large bolt in the middle of the cover. Seems it's ALWAYS something...

Boo! Now FMG, your SS is just fine, but do pop the valve cover and check that chain.

You might need to support your engine with a block of wood and a floor jack , remove the upper engine mount , check the accessory belt tension mounting bolt

A jack under the oil pan with a flat piece of wood. Remove the 3 bolts on the mount and you will be able to move the engine down a little. If you need to raise the engine you'll need to remove the 2 mount nuts.

Already have the accessory belt tensioner out; that access hole was convenient. Just that long bolt holding me up but will have to wait until tomorrow. I think I saw in one of the videos that the timing chain cover gasket loops around the motor mount bracket for whatever reason. So, I may have to remove the whole enchilada anyway.

Oops. Didn't think about that. Yeah, just remove the mount.

Reminds me of my mechanic days back in the 80's and 90's. Put a lot of timing belts or water pumps on Hondas. Every time I did one I would think, "What idiot designed this so I have to take the front engine mount loose ?"

That is a water pump bolt.

Just leave the bolt as it is and pull the cover, once the cover is partially off the bolt can be wiggled.

I had the cover broken away from the block, but the bolt just did not want to clear the frame--too much of the bolt still in the block to wiggle out. I'll attempt to remove it again tomorrow, but probably best just to remove the motor mount to lower the engine enough to clear the frame and since the motor mount bracket need to be removed from the block to R&R the gasket. Note that the left side of the motor mount bracket and the cover where the accessory belt tensioner goes both capture the timing cover gasket.

When you put the bolt for the belt tensioner back in I suggest having a magnet on your socket extension.

It turns out to be easier than it looks to drop the bolt into the gap, it ends up inside the frame. I was lucky the local dealer had one in stock.

I am kind of surprised you got it out without jacking the engine around, On my 2.2L there was no way.
