2008 HHR SS Brake issue/buy back
Yes I am afraid so.
It seems to be doing what everyone else has described.
If it sits about 3 hours our more when you start it the vacuum stays around 10"
if you do not wait about 30 seconds or so for the vacuum to go up to 15-20"
the brakes are not what they should be.
I am doing what most others seem to be doing who have not had theres fixed and that is waiting till it warms up for safetys sake.
I am guessing that if you took the good majority of the 08 09 hhr ss autos let them sit in a driveway over night start them up the next morning and back down a semi steep driveway they will be in for a big surprise.
Chevy MGr any suggestions.
just call the dealer and go from there?

I complained about the brakes and the whistling mirrors when I took mine to Rockenbach for the Turbo Upgrade. They said they could not duplicate either problem and did not fix it. The mirrors I can understand but if something ever happens with the brakes, I have a record of that and GM could be in a whole heap of trouble for ignoring it, especially since it is a known problem.

Now the part I would make sure about is to go over this and express that you want this TSB covered as it is a safety issue and something GM knows was a problem as they started to install them factory as it was a known issue. If the dealer will not do this under some kind of warranty I would go direct to Chevy about this.
I am not sure but Michelle could you advise or find out if he could get this covered by Chevy.
This issue is not some random issue but a well known and documented issue that effects the brake performance and could lead to a issue where someone gets hurt. It would be in the best interest to help him out and get this repaired as it was a design flaw. Other wise this could be another expensive out of court settlement if some get injured. At least I would make this part of my argument to the dealer and GM.
Can someone point me in the direction of the TSB so I can point to something?
I also have this issue on my new (to me) 2009 ss when I back down my steep driveway in the mornings.
I've never felt that I couldn't stop, but pedal travel is long, and it makes a terrible grunting/grinding noise that isn't satisfying

I could be wrong but I believe it is service bulletin # 09-05-22-001A
Not sure why each owner was not called on this?
I am assuming that if I bring in the service bulletin? My dealer can look into it.
Would be nice to bring in a printout anyone have the full print out.

Believe it or not not everyone had the issue. Often driving habits will prevent this. The people who auto start or start and let it run a min or two before putting it in geat or do not step on the brakes may not ever had it happen as vac build up by the time they use the brake.
Getting it fixed is not an issue I only worry if they try to stick you with the bill since it is out of warranty. If it was a cover on the Fuel Pump I could understand that but something on the brakes I would expect GM would or should take care of it. This was not a recall and that will be the sticking point. TSB's are not recalls that have to be addressed by law even years later.
