I did my buy back and kept my 0%. tell gm you want a "substitution of collateral" on your current loan from GMAC. you will pay the difference in the MSRP on the 2 vehicles so if your 08' was 22,000 msrp and the 09' is 23,000 then you will have to write GM a check at the closing for 1000. I got around this by ordering a car that was within $200 of my old car. But you get to keep your current loan and you just keep making the same payment.

Almost sounds like they are after the newer car then a fix because as you said,,it'l still have the same problem..only it'll be newer! But it IS a neat way to get a 5spd!!I've got over 5 k miles SINCE it started and have NEVER had any other brake issues,Its stop very well.Until it actually fails I'll keep driving it and wait for a fix(but NOT going to wit forever).IF it should happen to give further problems I'll be ready,Ive been thru worse. Also remember GM sorta kinda has bigger issues on their plate right now and since nobody has actually wrecked one because of this(at least that weve heard of) they probably have this issue on low heat.

Going on 4 years now with same situation and have never had a close call or incident..remote start or a moment to get belted, heaters on and comfortable AFTER starting it does the trick...key word is I am AWARE of the problem and react accordingly..its only an issue if you allow it to be....have we got so spoiled that we cant take a sec to do anything anymore?

I've had this issue from day 1.

Don't like it and think it's a dumb move by GM to not get a fix sooner or as they say get ahead of the story.

Given that, I don't really have any problems as I always remote start the car when I'm walking up to it. In a crowded urban area it's a good idea to keep lurkers away and the brakes are loaded and ready when I put the key in it.

Also every car should really be started and run a minute or so before taking off.

As far as valet parking, I valet at least 3 or 4 times a week and always tell the valet to let it warm up because the brakes will seem soft if they don't.

I also have a note I put over the gauges that says so, in those instances I valet at a hotel and the car sets a few days.

Still, GM should have a better fix, let's face it, there not in debt troubles anymore, (at least debt they are actively paying back) because all of us taxpayers and bond holders absorbed that burden.

But as far as safety, the brakes are secondary to the gms1 upgrade throwing the car in limp mode on the highway. That's something scary and no warm up time will fix that.

IMO

The TSB was out in early 09 and was fitted to mid year and on 09 models and retrofitted to any 08 that had been brought in.

Mine was done as soon as it came out and I have never has a hint of the issue since. The problems was resolved.

Some 08's do not have the issue most are 5speeds. This was a issue that effected automatics only. There were a few 5 speed claimes but I suspect it may have been another issue.

For some reason some here have refused to have their cars retrofitted?

For the most many people driving habits effect if they have the issue or not. Some folk start the car and do not pop it into gear as soon as the engine catches and most will build enough vaccume before they drive away. Others who pop it in geat as soon as the engine catches can feel the effects.

For the most this is no longer a major isssue on most vehicles as they have had the TSB done. Yours may already have it. My local dealer has installed it on the SS they have had on the used car lot.

Look bettween the intercooler and the starter and bolted to the starter and the corner of the oil pan will be a silver vaccume pump. This is the new pump if it has been installed.

geez... I had no idea that there were brake issues... bummer. GM needs to stand behind these and fix the darn problem!!

Luckily, I have a manual tranny and have never experienced any brake issues...

Generally it is not a manual problem so you should never see an issue. As for the rest GM has made a fix and it has fixed 99 percent of them.

The issues some are having may be due to dealer install issues, other problems witht he system like a leak or a wrong download in the computer.

I know many of the first ones done had wrong down loads and they had to come up with a new flash to deal with it. The Turbo upgrade car had to get a new flash if they were some of the first ones done. My dealer found the flash as it was not on the TSB when mine was fixed.

You made a remark that you don't know why everyone doesn't have this fixed on their auto SS and the above quote is the reason.

I have 4 chevy's, 3 super sports and regardless of city, regardless of dealer, regardless of how good the service department is I have never had a repair done that didn't have to go back.

I'm like a lot of people . . . busy. I travel by air around 100 days a year and run two studios so when I want to drive and enjoy it, I want to drive and enjoy it.

Going to the dealer, leaving the car for 2 days, picking it up, recognizing that the fix was wrong and then taking it back for 2 days just isn't worth it for something that I have learned to work around.

You say you have a great dealer and know people at gmpd . . . good, so why not toss out some phone numbers and share with the rest of us.

Everybody else does.

I'm sure a lot of people would love the perfect service you enjoy.
