I took the filter cover off today and made up an open top (so I can hear it better)

After the first drive the car threw the CEL on. I assume it is getting to much air? Is this going to cause a problem with the way the car is going to run now too?

Really sucks because I like to be able to hear the motor!

May not be connected to the air flow sensor?

 

I say to see if it is related - Back track by putting the cover back on - reset by Disconnecting the battery for a few minutes, reconnect and see if the CEL light comes back.....
