it doesn't need a shield. when driving down the road the air coming into the engine bay via the front grilles is pushing the heat created by the engine back towards the firewall and out the rear of the engine bay. the zzp intake puts the filter in front of the engine, right behind the front grilles.

is it me or do you hear an echo too?

the fact that YOUR car didn't need the MAF dialed in for the k&n intake doesn't mean that it's not needed for someone else. it means you're one of the few lucky ones that haven't had an issue. the k&n intake system is just barely an upgrade over the stock system, hence why it's 50/50 on whether you'll have issues or not. search the forum, you'll find threads over the past couple years talking about how the they got codes and/or their car went into limp mode after installing the k&n intake. my car acted up with the k&n intake setup. i put stock back in until i could get with my tuner to get the MAF dialed in correctly. swapped from stock pipe to k&n pipe, didn't notice a difference so i stuck with the stock pipe and k&n filter.

Hot intake or not, I love the way my ZZP looks, I love the way it sounds, and I fully believe that I am going to see very nice gains once I get everything dialed in.

Hmm,
ZZP knows that this hot air intake will need a heat shield...

Good dialogue, with the 2 choices that we have.
It's good that we have a 2nd choice now.

Not the right reasons to buy an air intake system.

The whole ZZP intake system needs shielding.
I would chose cheap lightweight plastic, over
heavy, heat soaking metal, any day.

i'd be willing to bet $50 that ZZP is willing to add a heat shield option to their intake for marketing purposes. making a shield would cost them like $2 tops in material and 5 minutes in fab time...... then add a $60-75 price tag on the option because there's easily 100 people on this forum that honestly believe it matters.

i love ZZP, they're great guys and i enjoy hanging out with them.... so go ahead and buy up all their intakes & heat shields.

No Thanks, I have one that works well...

You know that ZZP could put this to rest, by putting a stock air intake
HHR SS on the dyno, then putting a K&N air intake on, then the new ZZP
air intake.
It would be such an easy test to do for them.

Also, why did ZZP remove this new air intake, from their website ?
You can't even order it anymore ?

lack of inventory. they do it with a bunch of their newer products. once they sell out the inventory, they'll remove it from their website to prevent orders from piling up. once they get a new batch in stock it'll be back on the website.

they just did the same thing with their LNF intercoolers.

Just making a point, that looks, & sound are not good reasons
to buy an air intake.

Just like the HHR SS, I didn't buy it for the looks/sound.
I was hoping that for the 2009 model year, that GM would
put the automatic in the Cobalt SS. If they did, I would have got
the Cobalt SS.
